Nashville is the home of country music, and the city’s Pacific Coast League team honors that legacy with the nickname the Sounds. The team was founded in 1978 as a member of the Double-A Southern League. After a stretch in the American Association, the franchise made the jump to the Triple-A PCL in time for the start of the 1998 season. The Sounds have been affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers since 2005 and have held prior partnerships with Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit and New York.Ballpark
The Sounds play the home games on their schedule at Herschel Greer Stadium, which opened in 1978. The park, which holds 15,000 fans, is known for its trademark guitar-shaped scoreboard that was added before the start of the 1993 season. Greer Stadium, as it’s often called, has been the site of eight no-hitters. As one of the oldest parks in the league, Greer Stadium won’t be the home of the Sounds much longer. The Sounds recently made news headlines by announcing plans to move to a new ballpark at the start of the 2015 season.
One Pacific Coast League Championship
The Sounds have won three league championships in their history. They won two as a Double-A franchise, in 1979 and 1982, and one since joining the Pacific Coast League, in 2005. The franchise has also won nine division titles.
Nashville Sounds Roster
The all-time Sounds roster has included several notable players from baseball’s different eras. These players include Don Mattingly, Magglio Ordonez, R.A. Dickey, Ryan Braun, Skeeter Barnes, Corey Hart, Willie McGee, Buck Showalter, Ray Durham, Ryan Braun, Otis Nixon and Russell Branyan.
Spring Training
During Spring Training, members of the Sounds share Maryvale Baseball Complex with other players from the Milwaukee Brewers system. The park opened in 1998 and is also home to Milwaukee’s Arizona League affiliate.
