You might be visiting Charlotte with the intention of catching a couple of Knights games, but you won’t have to sit around in your hotel room waiting for the BB&T BallPark gates to open. This is a city with a ton of things to see and do, including several sports attractions that are within walking distance of the ballpark.
The biggest attraction that you’ll want to check out is Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. It’s only a block away from BB&T BallPark in fact, the football stadium towers high over the first base side of the park, and makes for an enticing backdrop when you’re seated in the outfield seats. Bank of America Stadium guided tours run on Wednesdays and Fridays and last 75 minutes. At $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for children, they’re among the most affordable across all of the major sports leagues. You don’t have to book a ticket in advance; just arrive at the stadium’s South Gate ticket office to buy your tickets in person. Visit the stadium tour website for the schedule.
Beyond football, there are some other sports-focused attractions to check out. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is an easy 12-minute walk from the ballpark and is a must-see sight for anyone who is interested in American motorsports. It features numerous exhibits, but the prime attraction is Glory Road a banked track with 18 different cars positioned around it. Also within walking distance of BB&T BallPark is the Spectrum Center, home to the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets. Baseball and basketball schedules don’t often intersect, but even if the Hornets aren’t playing, you can still visit to check out the team shop.
