If you attend a baseball game and don’t take a selfie, were you even there?

There’s no question that a selfie can be a fun souvenir of your visit, as well as something you can share on social media during the game. To take a good selfie, you want a decent light source, the right pose, and the perfect backdrop. At any ballpark you visit, it’s important to spend some time assessing your backdrop options so that you choose the right one.

Here are five perfect places to snap a selfie at Huntington Park, home of the Columbus Clippers.

1. Sidewalk Beyond Right Field

If you read my recent “5 Things I Love: Huntington Park” post, you might recall that one of the things I really enjoy about this ballpark is how easily you can see the field of play before you enter the gates. A spot along the sidewalk adjacent to West Nationwide Boulevard rewards the early-arriving fan with a view of the grounds crew preparing the field or the players taking batting practice. Or, depending on how early you are, a quiet, serene scene. From this position, you’re also in a prime spot for a selfie — something always fun to get before you enter the park. Depending on where you’re standing, it’s often easy to get a player who is warming up in the background, too.

I took this selfie from the sidewalk outside Huntington Park during a visit in July of 2024. With some help from my friend, Mark, I timed the shot just as Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Triston McKenzie — who was in Columbus on a rehab stint — was running behind me.

2. Home Plate Gate

Huntington Park, which opened in 2009, has a stylish, throwback look. This is evident from many spots throughout the park, including around its exterior. Depending on where you park, there’s a good chance that you’ll approach the ballpark’s center field gate at the corner of West Nationwide Boulevard and Neil Avenue. A selfie in this spot is warranted; there are several suitable backdrops. But, if you make your way around to the home plate gate area, which you’ll find at the corner of Huntington Park Lane and Brodbelt Lane, you’ll find yourself in front of a gate that has a simple and timeless look. If you’re early enough, there shouldn’t be much of a crowd lined up yet, which will make it easy for your backdrop to look clean.

You can position yourself in all sorts of spots around the home plate gate to have this stylish part of the ballpark fill the background of your selfie.

3. Logos on Third Base Concourse

A lot of baseball fans enjoy taking their selfies in front of a large rendering of a team’s logo. At Huntington Park, your best spot for this type of shot is along the concourse on the third base side. Just behind Section 21, you’ll see a brick wall that features enormous decals for not only the Clippers, but also their Copa de la Diversión alter ego, Los Veleros. The logos are stacked vertically, so it’s easy to get a shot with both of them in the background. With a selfie in this area, you’ll leave no doubt about what minor league franchise you’re seeing in action.

4. AEP Power Pavilion

The AEP Power Pavilion is another area of Huntington Park that I really enjoy. Its biggest advantage is its view of the field, but this area is also great for a selfie. It’s fun to look for an elevated spot when you’re planning a ballpark selfie; doing so will offer a wide field of vision behind you. At Huntington Park, the best area for such a photo is the AEP Power Pavilion. Specifically, you’ll want to climb up the bleachers as high as you can, and then position yourself with your back to the field. Be sure to set up this selfie soon after you arrive, as the setting sun that appears in the late innings — while beautiful — can pose a challenge behind you.

5. Left Field Bleachers

There are both pros and cons to sitting in the left field bleachers at Huntington Park, but where selfies are concerned, this is a great spot. Whether you buy a ticket in this section, visit before first pitch, or stand on the concourse just above the top row of seats, you’ve got lots of selfie options. You can position yourself so the iconic Huntington Park sign that sits atop the grandstand roof is visible behind you. If you’re looking for something different, you can even turn 180 degrees so that the outfield concourse and stylish AEP Power Pavilion create a unique backdrop to your shot.

If you’re looking for a field-level selfie with the Huntington Park sign behind you, consider visiting the left field bleachers before or during the game.
