If you attend a baseball game and don’t take a selfie, were you even there?

There’s no question that a selfie can be a fun souvenir of your visit, as well as something you can share on social media during the game. To take a good selfie, you want a decent light source, the right pose and the perfect backdrop. At any ballpark you visit, it’s important to spend some time assessing your backdrop options so that you choose the right one.

Here are five perfect places to snap a selfie at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.

1. The Comiskey Park Home Plate

It’s always fun to come up with unique angles for your selfies. You’ll get this chance if you grab a shot at the old Comiskey Park home plate location. Today, a marble plaque recognizes the longtime location of old Comiskey’s home plate. You can find it at the edge of parking lot B, across from Gate 5. You’ll want to get into a crouch and hold your phone high above you to capture both you and the home plate marker. If you’re a baseball history buff, this is a must-have selfie.

The location of the Comiskey Park home plate is just a short walk from the Guaranteed Rate Field gates.

2. The Statues

Like many MLB ballparks, there are a number of statues inside and outside of Guaranteed Rate Field. Each of them can be a good backdrop for your selfie. The large monument at the center of Champions Plaza outside of Gate 4 is a good option, and you’ll also find several statues on the 100 Level concourse once you’re inside. Options include Sox greats who played relatively recently, including Paul Konerko, Frank Thomas and Harold Baines. Or, you might prefer posing in front of a historic player, such as Luis Aparacio or Minnie Miñoso.

3. The City Skyline

From its location on the South Side, Guaranteed Rate Field offers a picturesque view of Chicago’s downtown skyline. Provided that the conditions are clear during your visit, you’ll be able to enjoy the skyline from numerous observation points on the north side of the ballpark. Try to use a wide angle for your selfie, as you’ll be able to see more of the buildings in the distance.

4. The Video Board

Lots of the video boards around the big leagues are notable. The one at Guaranteed Rate Field, however, is certainly one of the most recognizable. Its most famous feature is its seven colorful pinwheels across the top. They spin and light up after White Sox home runs and wins. Even when they’re stationary, they make for a fun backdrop to your selfie. You can position yourself in various points of the upper deck or the field-level outfield seats to get the video board behind you.

5. The “Southside” Sign

In 2021, the White Sox introduced their black “Southside” jerseys as part of MLB/Nike’s City Connect jersey series. If you’re a fan of these jerseys, you’ll want to seek out the “Southside” sign on the north ramp that allows fans to move between levels. This sign is perfect for having someone take your photo, but it’s also a cool selfie backdrop. The city’s skyline is visible in the distance, and you can decide whether or not you want it in your photo.
