If you attend a baseball game and don’t take a selfie, were you even there?
There’s no question that a selfie can be a fun souvenir of your visit, as well as something you can share on social media during the game. To take a good selfie, you want a decent light source, the right pose and the perfect backdrop. At any ballpark you visit, it’s important to spend some time assessing your backdrop options so that you choose the right one.
Here are five perfect places to snap a selfie at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
1. The Upper Deck Behind Home Plate
It’s fun to visit the upper deck of any ballpark and check out the view from behind home plate, but this spot is absolutely a must at PNC Park. Many fans believe that PNC offers the best view from home plate of any park in baseball, and it’s hard to argue with this sentiment. You’ll not only want to enjoy the view, but also capture it with a selfie. The downtown city skyline, the river, the bridges — all playing the role of backdrop to your shot – can easily become one of your favorite baseball travel selfies at a park that everyone loves.
2. The Roberto Clemente Statue
Few statues around baseball are more cherished than PNC Park’s Roberto Clemente statue, which sits next to the Center Field Gate — aptly at the end of the Roberto Clemente Bridge. Clemente is beloved not only for his hall of fame-worthy accomplishments on the field, but also for his humanitarian efforts away from it. If you want a selfie with the statue, it’s best to get to the ballpark early. You’ll see dozens of fans gathering around this statue, so an early arrival makes it easiest to get a shot without people behind you.
3. The Rotunda
The rotunda that towers above left field is one of the highlights of PNC Park, giving fans a long, winding way to access the upper deck from the main concourse. As you walk, you’ll have a nice bird’s-eye view of the park and of the Allegheny River and downtown skyline. There are all sorts of spots along the rotunda that are perfect for a selfie, especially as you get higher up. Decide what you want in the background, position yourself accordingly and snap away.
4. The Bridge
Although it’s not technically in the ballpark, the Roberto Clemente Bridge is a main pedestrian thoroughfare for many fans on game days. It’s fun to walk along this yellow bridge with hundreds of other fans, especially as you get close to the park. If you want a cool selfie before you get into PNC Park, there are plenty of good vantage points on this bridge. Position yourself next to one of the arches, and angle your body so that the ballpark is in the distance behind you.
5. The River
Beyond its ability to offer the excitement of splash hits, the Allegheny River that passes behind PNC Park creates a beautiful pieces of scenery for fans to enjoy. You can walk along the banks of the river before the ballpark’s gates open, enjoy a view of the water from the seats in right field and spend time in the Riverwalk area. The river can be a good selfie backdrop from any of these areas, but there are other ideas to explore. Want to get really creative? Rent a kayak across the river, paddle out into the center of it and snap a selfie with the PNC Park sign visible over your shoulder.
