Slugger Kyle Schwarber may spend a lot of time flirting with the Mendoza Line, but he’s also able to put on quite a show at the plate.
The 2014 first-round pick has demonstrated a prodigious display of power at each of the stops in his big league career — Chicago, Washington, Boston, and his current home, Philadelphia. His 46 long balls in 2022 were tops in the National League, and even though he’s led the league in strikeouts on multiple occasions, you don’t want to look away when Schwarber digs into the batter’s box. In this list, we’re counting down the longest home runs of Schwarber’s career, according to Statcast. (All videos appear courtesy of MLB.)
Here are the 10 longest home runs of Kyle Schwarber’s career to date.
10. 463 feet: April 16, 2021, at Nationals Park
Spending time with both the Red Sox and Nationals in 2021, Schwarber smacked 32 home runs in just 113 games. The longest of those home runs was his first of the season — a 463-foot blast off Arizona’s Alex Young. Schwarber got a good swing on a slider, launching the baseball deep into the seats above the right field bullpen. The home run, which had an exit velocity of 111.9 mph, gave the Nats a walk-off win.
9. 465 feet: September 6, 2023, at Petco Park
Just two days after hitting his 40th home run of 2023, Schwarber connected with #41 — a mammoth blast off a fastball from San Diego’s Michael Wacha. The 465-foot home run left Schwarber’s bat at 112 mph and bounced off the batter’s eye. Schwarber’s home run was the longest hit at Petco Park in 2023, topping a Juan Soto blast by four feet.
6 (t): 467 feet: June 14, 2017, at Citi Field
The third-longest home run hit at Citi Field in the Statcast era belongs to Schwarber, who smacked the memorable blast as a member of the Cubs in 2017. Facing Matt Harvey, Schwarber pounded a changeup over the Shea Bridge, 467 feet from home plate. The home run had an exit velocity of 113.6 mph and was Schwarber’s 12th of a season in which he hit 30.
6 (t): 467 feet: June 4, 2019, at Wrigley Field
Facing a full count in a tie game, Schwarber got the best of Colorado’s Jeff Hoffman. The righty threw a middle-of-the-zone fastball that Schwarber clubbed with an exit velocity of 111.2 mph, driving the baseball to the top of the bleachers in right-center field. The 467-foot home run was the 11th long ball of Schwarber’s 2019 season on the North Side.
6 (t): 467 feet: September 10, 2022, at Citizens Bank Park
Schwarber didn’t waste any time during an eighth-inning at-bat against Washington’s Cory Abbott. On the very first pitch he saw, a hanging slider, the slugger blasted the baseball into the upper bullpen at Citizens Bank Park. The 467-foot home run, Schwarber’s 37th of the campaign, left his bat with an exit velocity of 111.4 mph. He only hit one home run in 2022 that traveled farther.
5. 468 feet: April 20, 2022, at Coors Field
Even with the thin air in Denver, it’s not easy to drive a baseball into the upper deck at Coors Field — but that’s exactly what Schwarber did during an early 2022 matchup against Colorado’s German Marquez. With an 0-2 count, Schwarber connected with an off-speed pitch with an exit velocity of 110.3 mph, sending the ball into the third deck in right-center field. The home run was Schwarber’s fourth of a season in which he hit 46.
4. 470 feet: May 23, 2017, at Wrigley Field
Only 12 big league home runs soared farther in 2017 than the one Schwarber hit at Wrigley Field on May 23. Schwarber squared up a slider from San Francisco’s Johnny Cueto, drilling the baseball with an exit velocity of 114.2 mph and sending it 470 feet onto North Sheffield Avenue. The home run was the third longest hit at Wrigley Field in 2017, and is one of the longest hit at the famed ballpark in the Statcast era.
3. 473 feet: July 28, 2019, at Miller Park
The longest home run that Schwarber hit as a Chicago Cub came during the summer of 2019. That season, Schwarber pounded 38 home runs in his best offensive season with the Cubs. Schwarber hit home run #23 in fine fashion, blasting a slider from Milwaukee’s Zach Davies 473 feet for a first-inning grand slam. The baseball left Schwarber’s bat at 113.8 mph and reached the second deck in right-center field at Miller Park.
2. 483 feet: September 18, 2023, at Truist Park
Schwarber’s 45th home run of 2023 is one that he’ll likely remember for a long time. Atlanta’s Michael Tonkin served up an elevated slider that Schwarber smacked 483 feet, driving the baseball over the Coors Light Chop House in deep right field. The home run, which left the slugger’s bat at 113.9 mph, was the third-longest home run hit in the big leagues in 2023.
1. 488 feet: October 18, 2022, at Petco Park
