When you think of New York Yankees baseball, you might think of two things — history and home runs. And thanks to names like Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig and DiMaggio, there have been a lot of the latter throughout the years. While the original Yankee Stadium saw plenty of long home runs, there have been several impressive long balls at the new Yankee Stadium, too.
In this list, we’re counting down the 10 longest home runs at Yankee Stadium as of the conclusion of June 24, 2023. It’s important to note that these home runs are only from 2015 onward, when MLB’s Statcast began to officially track the distance of each MLB home run.
Here’s a look at the 10 longest home runs at Yankee Stadium in New York.
10. Gio Urshela — 461 feet
Infielder Gio Urshela’s best offensive season in the big leagues was 2019, and the home run he hit on August 12 of that year stands out as the longest. Urshela timed up a fastball from Baltimore’s Gabriel Ynoa and hit a towering home run into the left field bleachers, 461 feet from home plate. His 19th of the year, the blast had an exit velocity of 111.4 mph.
9. Carlos Correa — 462 feet
On a chilly April night in the Bronx, Houston’s Carlos Correa pounded a changeup from Michael Pineda to earn seventh spot on this list. The April 6, 2016 home run traveled 462 feet to straightaway center field. It had an exit velocity of 113.5 mph and was Correa’s third of the still-young season.
8. Aaron Judge — 468 feet
You knew Aaron Judge would make an appearance on this list, didn’t you? Facing Boston’s Matt Barnes on August 2 in an empty Yankee Stadium during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Judge connected with a curveball with an exit velocity of 107.4 mph, blasting the baseball 468 feet to left-center field. The home run was Judge’s sixth of the season and earned him a round of thunderous (piped-in) applause.
7. Manny Machado — 470 feet
It takes a powerful swing to hit a baseball close to the center field video board at Yankee Stadium, but that’s exactly what Baltimore’s Manny Machado did on April 28, 2017. Machado’s home run smacked the facing beneath the seats below the video board, 470 feet from home plate. The home run had an exit velocity of 113.9 mph and came off CC Sabathia.
6. Giancarlo Stanton — 471 feet
Long home runs and Giancarlo Stanton go hand in hand; his 504-foot blast at Denver’s Coors Field is a record at that stadium in the Statcast era. The slugger has hit a number of long bombs at Yankee Stadium, too, but none have been more impressive than his 471-foot shot on April 5, 2021. This home run, hit against Baltimore’s Shawn Armstrong, was Stanton’s first of the season and also a grand slam. It left his bat with an exit velocity of 115.1 mph and traveled to deep left-center field.
5. Gary Sánchez — 473 feet
Former Yankee Gary Sánchez got some revenge against the Bronx Bombers on September 5, 2022, as a member of the Minnesota Twins. Sánchez connected with a slider from Jameson Taillon, driving the baseball 473 feet with an exit velocity of 115.1 mph. The ball traveled deep into the left field bleachers, giving Sánchez his 14th home run of a 16-home run season.
4. Gary Sánchez — 481 feet
Catcher Gary Sánchez hit 138 home runs as a Yankee, but none traveled farther than the one he hit on June 21, 2019. Sánchez lifted a low changeup from Houston’s Brad Peacock with an exit velocity of 113.3 mph, driving the baseball 481 feet deep into the bleachers in left-center field. The blast was his 23rd of the season during a year in which he hit a career-high 34 long balls.
3. Giancarlo Stanton — 485 feet
Giancarlo Staton’s longest home run at Yankee Stadium to date came on April 2, 2023, against Ross Stripling and the Giants. Stanton lifted a low slider deep into left-center field, driving the baseball 485 feet from home plate. The home run swing had an exit velocity of 117.8 mph, and is one of the longest of Stanton’s career.
2. Aaron Judge — 495 feet
As a rookie in 2017, Aaron Judge was the American League Rookie of the Year, an All-Star and Silver Slugger, and finished second in the American League MVP voting. He also hit 52 home runs, including several of the tape measure variety. His long ball against Baltimore’s Logan Verrett on June 11 was one of the most impressive. It had a whopping exit velocity of 118.6 mph (best on this list) and flew 495 feet to the top of the left field bleachers.
1. Aaron Judge — 496 feet
While Aaron Judge’s 495-foot blast on June 11, 2017 created a buzz around baseball, he topped that mark by a foot on the last day of September in what ended up being his 52nd and final long ball of the campaign. This blast, off a slider from Toronto’s Marcus Stroman, sailed 496 feet over the left field bleachers and had an exit velocity of 118.3 mph.
