Despite Canal Park’s downtown location, the neighborhood around the ballpark isn’t exactly brimming with things to see and do. Although you’ll find a handful of bars and restaurants within walking distance to the park, the above-average food selection at Canal Park means you’re better off saving your appetite until the gates open. The area around the ballpark is quiet for 7 p.m. games, as the bulk of people who work in the city’s downtown have already begun to commute home.
Taking a lap around the ballpark gives you a chance to take in the sights, but the prime spot in this area is the path that runs parallel to the Ohio & Erie Canal. You can find the canal and its path directly behind the ballpark’s right field corner, and provided you’ve got enough time before the gates open, follow it in either direction to enjoy the scenery.
