Southwest University Park is situated in downtown El Paso, which means that there’s a long list of attractions that you can check out on foot. The El Paso Museum of History and the El Paso Museum of Art are both in the immediate vicinity of the park. If you’re into unique architecture, check out the El Paso Scottish Rite Temple, which is immediately behind the left-center field fence, the El Paso Union Depot train station (just a couple of blocks away from the home plate entrance) and the Abraham Chavez Theatre (next to the ballpark).
Other attractions that are accessible by vehicle and worth checking out are the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso, Franklin Mountains State Park, the El Paso Mission Trail, Fort Bliss, Concordia Cemetery and the Scenic Drive Overlook. A visit to just a few of these sites can easily fill up your day before you head over to the ballpark.
Southwest University Park’s gates open an hour before first pitch, but you shouldn’t be shy about showing up at the ballpark well in advance. You can see parts of the field from the sidewalks on North Santa Fe Street and West Missouri Avenue, and you’ll enjoy hanging out and watching batting practice before you enter.
