Heavily influenced by the cuisine of West Texas and Mexico, the latter of which is visible from the ballpark, Southwest University Park’s menu is one of the best that you’ll find in all the minor leagues. Make sure that you show up to the park with an appetite, as there is no shortage of outstanding food options that will appeal to you.
While you can buy standard hot dogs at many different concession stands throughout the park, be sure to check out the Juarez Dogs stand behind Section 105. It’s got a number of enticing options, including the Chihua Dog (bacon-wrapped hot dog topped with beans, pico, guacamole and jalapenos), the Memphis Meets Mexico Dog (bacon-wrapped hot dog topped with pulled pork, pork rinds, coleslaw, pickles and BBQ sauce) and more. Alligator Alley behind Section 211 also has an impressive array of unique hot dogs, including the Rangoon Dog (hot dog wrapped in an egg roll and topped with cream cheese, Thai chili sauce and freshly diced cilantro) and the New Mexico Dog (green chile mustard, cactus relish and pico). If a sausage on a bun appeals to you, look for the Sausage Spot concession stand behind Section 122. It’s notable for having a wide range of unique sausages, including those made with game meats such as gator, venison, wild boar and elk.
The Monchi’s concession stand behind Section 109 offers all sorts of fare, including a few unique options. Try the Diablo Fries (fries dusted with Hot Cheetos dust, and topped with diced hot peppers and nacho cheese) or the Churwaffle and Chicken (mini waffles and fried chicken pieces with maple butter sauce). The Bark Pit BBQ stand behind Section 106 offers all sorts of barbecue fare, including brisket and pulled pork sandwiches, barbecue nachos and mac and cheese.
Chico’s Cantina behind Section 121 has all sorts of Mexican-inspired options, including walking tacos, nachos, flautas and burritos. A walk up to the 200 Level will give you a chance to check out the Rio Grrrande Grill behind Section 214. It has a number of winning menu items, including the El Paso Chicken Sandwich (grilled chicken, provolone, green chile and guacamole), the Huevos Rancheros Burger (a burger topped with a fried egg, cheese and ranchero sauce), fish tacos, chicken wings and more. While there are certainly several options that may seem more appealing than pizza, don’t rule out a slice while you’re at Southwest University Park. The Peter Piper Pizza stand behind Section 117 offers up some impressively good pizza.
Being out in the El Paso sun means that you’ll want a cold drink, and there are several satisfying options around the park. In particular, the Slush’Ae stand behind Section 104 has a number of frozen drinks, while the Fruitas Locas stand behind Section 103 has fruit smoothies and a variety of other beverages that will help you to beat the heat. You might also want to grab a margarita at the 204 Cart concession, as El Paso lays claim to inventing this popular adult drink.
