The community around Whitaker Bank Ballpark isn’t exactly a hotbed of excitement. The thriving attractions common around some ballparks, even in the minors, aren’t here. There’s a rather uninspiring strip mall next to the ballpark and much of the surrounding area is residential. Just a few minutes away, however, you’ll find a Walmart and a handful of fast-food restaurants, which might be appealing if you’re interested in a pre-game snack.
Lexington’s connection to the horseracing industry means this city is brimming with horse-related attractions. If you’re in town with enough time to spare, check out the Keeneland track, Kentucky Horse Park or such horse-related museums as the American Saddlebreed Museum or the Thoroughbred Center.
